The Garden - Abby Litman

Folk singer-songwriter Abby’s single sets the tone of The Garden through her writing and raw voice. The story follows a garden lady depicted in a timeless realm, as many suns and moons pass her, she tugs at weeds and moves slowly through the wild grasses. Collaborating with the musician’s plant drawings as an initial concept, I expanded the designs to open up her earthy world and to find a surprise along the way.

This animation emulates an alluring storybook illustrated with organic lines, curves, and watercolor bleeds. The character designs reflect a graceful elongated plant lady, with green skin and sage hair wearing a translucent, flower-like layered silhouette. The round baby pod reflects a stoic inner-child. I wanted to contrast the two characters in a world where one is uprooted ready to fly while the other is attached in a deep pattern.
